Our pantry coordinators share, “We received SO many donations of non-perishable food during the period when SNAP benefits were cut off, as well as over the holidays. But as we enter March, so many of those items have already been given to our neighbors in need.”

The NEEDS pantry is in real need of sanitary pads and shampoo. Our stock is almost depleted. If you’d like to help us restock, you can drop off your donations at Kenwood Baptist Church during NEEDS’ open hours (Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 am – 1 pm). Donations can also be placed in the NEEDS bins at both entrances to the church.

The NEEDS pantry coordinators note, “The last months of 2025 have been hard ones for the less fortunate members of our community. The cutoff of SNAP benefits drove even more families to seek emergency food support from our pantry. In fact, the numbers of those seen rose by 50%. SNAP benefits have yet to be fully reinstated, and our families are also facing an imminent increase in health insurance costs.”

Until the last week of October, NEEDS was serving an average of 24 families per day. On Thursday, the day before SNAP food assistance benefits were to disappear, we served 38. We also served our first federal employee, who has been working without salary since the government shutdown began.
News reports indicated that pantries around the country experienced the same surge in those seeking their help. The Freestore Foodbank said that we should expect the same or more in coming weeks. Can you help us meet our neighbors’ needs by donating to the pantry?
