The NEEDS pantry coordinators note, “The last months of 2025 have been hard ones for the less fortunate members of our community. The cutoff of SNAP benefits drove even more families to seek emergency food support from our pantry. In fact, the numbers of those seen rose by 50%. SNAP benefits have yet to be fully reinstated, and our families are also facing an imminent increase in health insurance costs.”

Current Pantry Needs

Until the last week of October, NEEDS was serving an average of 24 families per day. On Thursday, the day before SNAP food assistance benefits were to disappear, we served 38. We also served our first federal employee, who has been working without salary since the government shutdown began.

News reports indicated that pantries around the country experienced the same surge in those seeking their help. The Freestore Foodbank said that we should expect the same or more in coming weeks. Can you help us meet our neighbors’ needs by donating to the pantry?

Our top needs this month are rice, potato, and pasta mixes and laundry detergent. Other key items are listed below.

Home and Personal Care:
Shampoo
Toothpaste
Pump hand soap
Sanitary pads and tampons
Deodorant

Donations can be dropped off at Kenwood Baptist Church, either at the drive-through during our open hours (Tuesday and Thursday 9:00-1:00), or in the marked boxes at each entrance. Prefer to order online? Click HERE for more options. Thank you!

Now Through September 30: Student Assistance Drive

NEEDS is holding our annual Student Assistance Drive!

In just a few weeks, students in the Deer Park, Sycamore, Princeton, and Silverton districts will return to school – but many families in these districts cannot afford school supplies or other essentials. NEEDS is seeking gift cards and monetary donations to help these families. Gift cards and funds give school administrators flexibility to assist students with a variety of needs throughout the year, from school supplies and transportation to food and warm clothing. You can help!

What to donate:
– Gift cards from stores such as Walmart, Target, and Kroger
– Visa and Mastercard gift cards
– Shell gas cards (many families live in areas where busing is not available)
– Check (marked for Student Assistance Drive)

Please drop off your donation during our open hours (Tuesday and Thursday 9:00-1:00), or mail your gift card or check to:
