All Saints Church Bob Meyer Memorial Food Drive for NEEDS

Last fall All Saints Catholic Church held a food drive for the NEEDS food pantry as part of its “Year of Mercy” program.  All Saints and NEEDS volunteers will tell you that “fall is a critical time for the pantry, it’s at this time that levels of canned food get dangerously low”.

The challenge created at All Saints was to receive just one canned good from every parishioner. With 1600 members in the parish, this was to be quite an undertaking. One parishioner was instrumental in the NEEDS pantry food drive, Robert “Bob” Meyer. Mr. Meyer took it upon himself to set-up signs, move goods into cars and trucks and then ensure its safe passage to the NEEDS pantry that is located inside the Kenwood Baptist Church. Thanks to the hard work of Mr. Meyer and All Saints Church, at least 1600 canned goods were collected; the 2016 “Year of Mercy” NEEDS food pantry program was a success!

In April of this year, after a brief illness, the world lost Robert “Bob” Meyer. His memory is a blessing to all who knew him and was touched by his diligence, kindness and charity.

As a way to honor Mr. Meyer’s memory All Saints has named their annual NEEDS Food Drive after him. This year the challenge is to collect MORE THAN 1600 canned goods. All Saints will begin collecting and counting canned goods on Monday, October 9th through Sunday October 15th. All Saints Church is located at 8939 Montgomery Road (by Moeller High School), Cincinnati, 45236 (just off Ronald Regan Highway) and is open from 8 am to 4 pm daily. Anyone can collect for the Bob Meyer Memorial Food Drive; anyone can honor the legacy of Mr. Meyer with the simple act of dropping off a canned good to All Saints.

It is the mission of Northeast Emergency Distribution Service (NEEDS) to provide emergency assistance to the neediest families in the Northeast Cincinnati community. NEEDS is a community of 25 churches and civic organizations. The NEEDS Food Pantry is an all-volunteer cooperative located in the Kenwood Baptist Church. The NEEDS Food Pantry is YOUR neighborhood foodbank, its local, its convenient and it serves your neighbors in need. NEEDS does not receive government support.

In addition to overseeing an active foodbank, NEEDS collects schools supplies in August and does a hat, glove and sock drive in winter. NEEDS also provides neighbors-in-need with housing and utility payment assistance. Those suffering economic hardship could be your family, friends and neighbors in any of the communities within the Sycamore Schools, Madeira Schools, Princeton Schools and Deer Park Schools District lines. NEEDS serves more than 2,000 people in northeastern Hamilton County.

If you are looking to participate in Make a Difference Day, why not consider collecting for NEEDS? Just like the All Saints Church Bob Meyer Memorial Food Drive for NEEDS, any individual or group can collect canned goods, other non-perishable food items including school supplies, diapers, cleaning items (both household and personal) and feminine hygiene products or they can raise monetary funds for NEEDS.  Items that are most urgent include: canned fruits and vegetables, beans, prepared foods (tuna, peanut butter, jelly, cereal and spaghetti sauce. Did you know that toilette paper, feminine products, diapers and personal and household soaps are not covered by food stamps? NEEDS does its best to help our neighbors in need. Like Bob Meyer, you too can make a difference in the world.

The NEEDS food pantry is located at the Kenwood Baptist Church, 8341 Kenwood Road, 45236 and is open Tuesday and Thursdays from 9 am – 1 pm.  Donations of canned goods and other items are always accepted at the NEEDS food pantry. Monetary gifts can be mailed to: NEEDS, 8341 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236. For pick-up of donated items or to ask questions please call (513)891-0850 (NEEDS) or checkout NEEDS website: http://www.cincyneeds.org/
